REVIEWS
We know that those going through a breast cancer diagnosis gain strength and power from hearing the experiences of others. I am sure this book will bring insight from Jo’s experience to many others.

This book is a must read. Jo’s raw, authentic and warm account of her experience of breast cancer “tells it how it is,” with a great dose of her wicked sense of humour. Jo’s determination to ensure that more women access breast screening from a younger age is inspiring, and it’s saving lives. She’s a change-maker, and we should all literally take a leaf out of her book.
— Zoe Mc Alpine , CEO Breast Cancer Care WA
I am beyond words. Honestly, I got hooked, reading until after 1am. It was moving and inspiring to be on this journey with Jo - from diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy and beyond. From the beginning I was teary-eyed, but the story-telling was also hilarious. It’s beautiful! I admire the passion Jo has to spread these messages and to be an empowering change-maker. This book is appropriate for health care professionals, including medical students and junior doctors, family members, relatives and friends of women who are also going through this journey, women who are confused and are unaware that they do not need to wait until they are 50 to get a screening mammogram. Jo is a gift to our community. I now have a better understanding of the journey beyond the diagnosis of my patients.

I started reading this with a cup of tea and finished it in one sitting with a glass of wine! I couldn’t put this down. It’s like Jo was in my head, feelings I had but didn’t have words for spilled out before me! Thank you Jo for giving your powerful, honest, raw and funny voice to those who are fighting, surviving, caring or living with the ‘Big Fucking Giant called Cancer’!

Jo's forthright, frank account of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment captures the shock and betrayal of finding your breast secretly harbouring a potentially life-limiting disease and the fear of the treatment that “is supposed to cure you". She doesn't sugar coat the hurt along the way but takes you through the highs and lows with humour and heart before offering her top ten insights into what can help you through. For those that aren’t lucky enough to have the peer support we had, this book will introduce you to “Wonderwoman” Jo and may help you find your own superhero within.

ABOUT JO JOYCE
Jo Joyce was born and raised in the eastern suburbs of Perth and has called Western Australia home for most of her life. For almost 30 years, she has felt rewarded in her profession as a primary school teacher and is happily married with a teenage daughter. Over her life she has developed a passion for music, books and dogs and is an activist for both local and national indigenous, environmental and women’s health issues.
Whilst very fit and leading a healthy lifestyle, Jo was shocked to be diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 46 during a routine screening mammogram. With no symptoms or family history, a bewildered Jo embarked on a grueling regime of surgery and treatment to beat cancer.
